Magdy Mehran, the lawyer of Egyptian artist Rushwan Tawfic, revealed the complete details of the recent controversy regarding lawsuits filed against him by his daughter, Aya Tawfic, clarifying the nature of the legal dispute, especially after reports suggested it was related to guardianship over his properties.
Magdy Mehran stated in exclusive remarks to "Sky News Arabia" that the current crisis is not about a guardianship case, emphasizing that it is a "dispute between Aya and her father" and that there has been a "misunderstanding occurring through social media." He also revealed a surprise concerning lawyer Mohamed Issam El-Din (Aya Rushwan's son) accepting a reconciliation initiative he launched recently, hoping that Aya would do the same and "come back to her father, ending this crisis."
### Court Sessions
He explained that the ongoing dispute has been scheduled for court sessions, with three more hearings set: the first on December 4, the second on December 20, and the third on December 29; however, he has not yet been notified about the third session or the nature of the lawsuit filed against the Egyptian artist.
Regarding the lawsuits, he pointed out that they revolve around the nullification of the power of attorney issued by the daughter to her father, Rushwan Tawfic, in addition to nullifying transactions carried out under this power of attorney. He continued: "When the Egyptian artist purchased any properties or assets, they were registered in the name of his children, who issued powers of attorney to their father as a reassurance that these properties would remain his; based on these powers of attorney, he could sell them to himself or to others as well."
### Oral Dispute
The lawyer noted that Aya initiated the lawsuits, the first to cancel the power of attorney, and the second to request the annulment of the redivision of inheritance among the children based on those powers of attorney, which ignited the dispute between them. He described that the disagreement has existed orally for three months, but legal proceedings began about two months ago.
Speaking about this dispute, he said: "What occurred in these disagreements was the daughter's expression of her extreme anger and dissatisfaction with the redivision of the inheritance," denying any kind of conflict between them "at all," as he stated.
Mehran affirmed that "the Egyptian artist has not had any legal disputes throughout his life, and this is the first case he has ever faced," asserting that he was "surprised by his daughter's recourse to the judiciary without his knowledge."
### Self-Defense
Tawfic's lawyer denied any intention to litigate but described it as "litigation in self-defense," saying: "He will not be as happy with a judgment in his favor in the case as he would be if his daughter and grandson return to his embrace."
Regarding Tawfic's reaction upon learning of the lawsuit against him, he confirmed that he felt extreme sadness, indicating that he said: "It is impossible for my relationship with my daughter to end in this way." He added: "His sadness was not due to the lawsuit, but rather how love turned into such blatant conflict."
He also denied interfering in the judicial matters "since they are under review by the court," but continued: "However, we can intervene to resolve the family crisis and issue a plea to Aya and her son Issam El-Din to return to the big embrace."
"Sky News Arabia" attempted to reach artist Rushwan Tawfic but did not receive a response. They also attempted to contact his eldest daughter, media personality Heba Rushwan, but she refused to comment further on the matter. Tawfic previously announced his suffering due to a crisis with his younger daughter, Aya, as he appeared tearful on a television program. Many Egyptian art stars have supported Tawfic after his declaration, including the head of the acting professions, artist Ashraf Zaki, and actresses Donia Samir Ghanem, Eman Al-Assi, and Nashwa Mustafa, among others.
