REGENT is working on building the first electric seaglider, which is expected to redefine the future of water transportation. The seaglider, or seaplane, features capabilities that make it more efficient than traditional transportation methods. It presents an opportunity to revolutionize travel between coastal cities. Co-founder and CEO Billy Thalheimer described riding the seaglider as "an unparalleled experience" that combines the best aspects of flying, high-speed trains, and fast ferries.
The company plans to conduct trials in the first quarter of 2022, according to a report from CNN in Arabic. The vehicle can reach maximum speeds of around 300 kilometers per hour, making it faster than ferries. These seagliders operate similarly to boats. Upon launching, the vehicle will accelerate on the water before flying above a "cushion of air," then decelerate in the final meters of the journey to land at the dock, back on the water.
Passengers will not need to go through airport procedures. According to Thalheimer, "Travelers will not have to undergo security checks, as the seagliders are restricted to flying above water within a range of about half of their wingspan." Thalheimer also noted that the vehicle is fully electric, with zero emissions. It will transport 12 passengers, with a future model capable of carrying at least 50 passengers.
The company plans to conduct water tests in the first quarter of 2022, with the launch of its first commercial passenger services expected by 2025. The vehicle enjoys maximum speeds of around 300 kilometers per hour. The routes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai are ideal for these vehicles due to their coastal locations. Thalheimer confirmed, "There is a lot of traffic congestion between them today, and there are many passengers traveling between these cities."
If REGENT's vehicles are utilized, passengers could travel for around $30 or $15, depending on the model used. The journey between the two cities is expected to take only half an hour. Thalheimer believes that the UAE is a fantastic area to start the company's operations, as Dubai has already shown its embrace of future technologies.
