Today, the Italian goalkeeping legend and captain of Juventus, the giant goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, celebrates his 43rd birthday.
The veteran goalkeeper Buffon was born on January 28, 1978, embarking on a career filled with titles, achievements, and exceptional records in the world of football, both with his national team and the clubs he has represented over 25 years, including Parma, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain. The Juventus team made sure to celebrate Buffon's birthday, one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world, through the official Instagram account of the Italian club, posting a picture of Buffon with the caption: "Happy Birthday, Super Gigi."
The official page of FIFA also congratulated the player on his birthday: "Happy Birthday, Buffon." Buffon won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana with Parma, as well as the UEFA Cup, before joining Juventus in the summer of 2001 from Parma in a record deal at that time that made him the most expensive goalkeeper in football history for 52 million euros.
Buffon has won 18 titles with Juventus over 16 years, including 9 Serie A titles, 5 Supercoppa Italiana titles, 3 Coppa Italia titles, and 1 Serie B title, although the coveted UEFA Champions League title remained an elusive dream. He moved to PSG in July 2018, spending one season there, during which he won the Ligue 1 and Trophée des Champions titles before returning to Juventus.
Notably, on the international level, Buffon won the World Cup with the Italian national team in 2006 and holds the record for the most appearances for his national team, totaling 176 matches from 1997 to 2018.
