The Kuwaiti government has submitted its resignation to the Emir of the country, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Kuwait News Agency reported today that Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah presented the government's resignation letter to Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This resignation move comes days after members of parliament requested to interrogate the Prime Minister regarding issues related to the government's formation, prompting ministers to submit their resignations to the Prime Minister yesterday.
Kuwaiti media sources indicated that the interrogation the Prime Minister was supposed to undergo is based on three main points: the first point pertains to a blatant violation of constitutional provisions in forming the government without considering the elements and trends of the new council; the second point concerns the dominance of the executive authority in shaping the parliament; while the third point involves the breach of constitutional commitment under Article 98 of the constitution.
Last week, the new government was absent from a session of the Kuwaiti National Assembly after three deputies announced their intention to interrogate Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, who received support from 36 deputies.
The new government, which Deputy Marzouk Al-Khalifa described as a "club of relatives," is the second to be led by Sabah Al-Khalid. It witnessed the appointment of 7 new ministers taking on ministerial portfolios for the first time, the return of 3 ministers to their posts after previous experiences, alongside the continuation of 5 ministers in their positions, some of whom were rotated in their portfolios.
