Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed today, Saturday, that the United Nations' World Food Programme has sent Russian-origin fertilizers to Kenya after they were seized by Latvia due to European Union sanctions.
The statement indicated that "the government of Latvia decided to facilitate the donation of mineral fertilizers by companies subject to EU sanctions, with the support of the World Food Programme." It added, "The first shipment of a total of 200,000 tons of seized fertilizers left the Port of Riga yesterday, Friday, and more shipments are expected to follow."
The statement confirmed that "Latvia continues, alongside its foreign partners and international organizations, to provide support to countries affected by the food crisis caused by the Russian war in Ukraine."
