The Chadian government reported on Wednesday that "at least 17 people were killed in the southern part of the country on Tuesday when armed assailants attacked a group of nomadic herders before being expelled by Chadian forces." Government spokesman Aziz Mohamed Saleh stated that "an armed group based in the neighboring Central African Republic launched an attack on civilians on Tuesday before the army intervened." He added that "four people died in the attack before the army expelled the assailants, killing 13 of them."
The regional governor, Ahmed Dari Bazine, confirmed that "about 20 people lost their lives in the attack." No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, and no contact could be made with a representative of the group.
