Turkey summoned the Danish ambassador in Ankara, Dani Anan, today, Friday, to express its strong condemnation and protest against the violations of the Quran and the Turkish flag, according to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry stated in a statement: "It is unacceptable to allow such despicable acts under the pretext of freedom of expression, despite all our warnings." It added: "We will undoubtedly continue our efforts on bilateral and multilateral platforms against this despicable act and similar hate crimes, which are clear examples of rising Islamophobia and xenophobia that have recently increased alarmingly in Europe." The Danish ambassador in Ankara was summoned two weeks ago after a group of right-wing extremists in Denmark burned a copy of the Quran and the Turkish flag in front of the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen.
