The International Committee of the Red Cross has announced it will cut approximately 1,500 jobs and cease operations in some areas, as humanitarian aid budgets are expected to decline. The committee, based in Geneva, stated that its board approved a cost reduction of 430 million Swiss francs (approximately 475.30 million dollars) for 2023 and early 2024 last week. It added, "At least 20 out of the current 350 sites worldwide will be closed, where another office of the International Committee of the Red Cross can cover the area, or humanitarian or development partners can take over. We will reduce the number of our programs and cease some of them." The International Committee of the Red Cross, established in 1863, provides humanitarian assistance to victims of armed conflicts.
