US President Joe Biden expressed hope on Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would retract the judicial amendments law that has stirred a political crisis for his government and protests in Israel. He told reporters at the White House, "I hope he washes his hands of it." It wasn't long before Netanyahu responded, stating, "Israel is a sovereign state that does not make decisions based on pressure from abroad." He continued, "Israel is a sovereign state that makes its decisions based on the will of its people and not based on pressure from abroad, including from its best friends." He added that his government is striving to implement reforms "through broad consensus."
