German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated on Wednesday that her country wishes to secure its energy needs through cooperation with Qatar. In a joint press conference with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, she said, "LNG supplies from Qatar to Germany will help us diversify energy sources in Germany. We want stability in energy supplies through our relationship with Qatar." This is the first visit by a high-ranking German official to Qatar since Berlin criticized the Gulf country during its hosting of the FIFA World Cup last year.
