Today, the International Committee of the Red Cross official, Kremer, pointed out that Sudanese refugees are flowing into Chad at an extremely rapid pace, to the extent that it is impossible to relocate them all to safer places before the rainy season begins in late June, highlighting the risk of a disaster. In a press conference held in Geneva, Kremer stated: "We know that we will not be able to move them all before the rainy season." He added, "It's like a race now to transfer as many as possible... we are at risk of a major humanitarian disaster in this region."
Over 60,000 people have fled into Chad to escape violence in Sudan.
In a conversation with "Reuters," Chad's commission spokesperson, Eugene Bouon, said, "Many of the refugees reported losing family members and having their homes burned down, and minors often travel alone with children." She continued, "It disturbs me to look at them... there are so many children, which is truly heartbreaking because they do not know where their parents are."
