The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on Sunday that "ten people lost their lives in the central part of the country after strong winds uprooted trees, and heavy rains left hundreds of residential areas without electricity." The ministry added, "Eight of the victims and 29 injured were at a campsite near Lake Yalchik in the Mari El region." Additionally, the Russian Investigative Committee announced the opening of a criminal investigation into the incident, which included three children among the fatalities. Officials stated that "the storms cut off electricity to 520 residential areas and damaged the roofs of 41 residential buildings and seven buildings providing social services across eight different regions of Russia."
