12 Killed in Land Dispute in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The army of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Wednesday that nine civilians and three members of the security forces were killed during a land dispute between residents of two neighboring villages in the eastern part of the country, which escalated into violence and armed clashes. A spokesperson for the army in the region indicated that clashes broke out between residents of the villages of Nyatsa and Adroval in the troubled Ituri province on Sunday and Monday. In addition to civilian casualties, two police officers and a soldier were killed while attempting to intervene. He added that two police officers and two soldiers are missing.
