Nandan Singh Rajwar, an official in India's disaster management, stated on Friday that "rescue workers are searching for missing persons after a landslide in northern India destroyed some shops on a mountain path and swept buildings into the river below." He explained that "the incident occurred yesterday evening after part of a hill collapsed amid heavy rainfall in the Jorikund area of the mountainous state of Uttarakhand." Rajwar announced that "at least 12 to 13 people are missing who were on their way to the Kedarnath temple, a sacred site for Hindus."
