America Appoints New Ambassador to Niger: Destination Niamey

The U.S. State Department announced today, Wednesday, that the new American ambassador to Niger, Kathleen Fitzgibbon, will travel to Niamey but will not head to Niger following last month's coup. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel stated that Fitzgibbon's travel is a sign of Washington's continued engagement in the situation. He added that there are no plans for Fitzgibbon to present her credentials to the coup leaders, clarifying that this is not necessary for operations at the embassy.
