Meta Platforms announced that it has started full encryption for all personal conversations and calls on Messenger and Facebook. The tech giant clarified that the full encryption feature will be immediately available to users, but it may take some time for all Messenger accounts to be updated with full encryption as part of the default settings. Meta noted that Messenger previously had the option to enable full encryption, allowing messages to be read only by the sender and recipient; however, with this change, messages will be automatically encrypted.
