Lebanon's caretaker Minister of Finance, Yusuf Khalil, stated that convening a cabinet meeting dedicated to reviewing draft decrees submitted by the Ministry of Finance concerning productivity compensation and transportation allowances for public sector employees and military personnel is crucial for resuming operations sustainably in public administrations and institutions.
He pointed out that the disruption of public services costs the treasury significant resource losses, especially when they are in dire need of revenues to finance basic public services. He stressed that "every day lost without reactivating work in the public sector imposes great burdens and pushes the situation towards further deterioration," noting that "if collapse affects the public sector, it will inevitably hinder certain matters in the private sector linked to administration, opening the door to the emergence of random sectors and chaos that cannot be controlled, consequently plunging economic sectors into more losses."
He added: "Lebanon today stands at a critical juncture; we either maintain the existence of a state and institutions capable of managing state affairs, or we face further deterioration and a slide into the unknown."
