The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abul Gheit, affirmed "the organization's absolute rejection of any form of forced relocation of Palestinians from the northern Gaza Strip to its southern part." During his meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Cairo, Abul Gheit stated, "The Arab League opposes the collective punishment of Palestinians in a manner that violates international humanitarian law."
He emphasized the "necessity of working collectively at the international level to prevent the continuation of the massacre in Gaza, especially since the cycle of violence and retaliation will not bring security or peace in the long term." He added: "The fundamental problem that cannot be escaped is the continuation of occupation and the political deadlock, and what is happening makes peace further out of reach."
For her part, Baerbock requested from Abul Gheit a resolution to the crisis of German detainees in Gaza. Arab League spokesperson Counselor Jamal Rushdi stated: "The meeting between Abul Gheit and Baerbock witnessed an agreement on the necessity of protecting civilians in the sector from Israeli military actions and the importance of allowing humanitarian aid into the sector to prevent further deterioration of the situation."
