Officials announced that "Qatar and the UAE are in the process of restoring diplomatic relations and reopening embassies after more than two years of Arab countries' boycott of Doha."
An Emirati official stated in a Reuters report, "Currently, diplomatic relations are being activated, including the reopening of the embassies of both countries."
A Gulf official anticipated that the embassies would reopen and new ambassadors would be appointed by mid-June. A third source revealed to Reuters that diplomatic relations "will be fully resumed within weeks." The International Media Office in Qatar confirmed in a statement that "work is underway to reopen the concerned embassies as soon as possible." This restoration of relations comes amid broader reconciliation efforts in the region, as Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed last month to restore their relations after years of animosity. Additionally, Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have moved to end a decade-long isolation of Syria due to a crackdown on protesters in 2011 that led to a prolonged civil war. Regarding Yemen, the Houthi group and Saudi Arabia held a round of peace talks a few days ago, and both sides exchanged hundreds of prisoners in a significant step toward building peace.
