Bayern Munich has signed the promising Australian teenager Nestory Irankunda, as announced by the Bavarian club on Tuesday. The forward, who will celebrate his eighteenth birthday on February 9, will join the Bavarian giants on July 1, 2024, on a long-term contract coming from Adelaide United.
Bayern's youth development director, Jochen Sauer, stated: "Nestory is a very fast winger, strong in dribbling and finishing, with a lot of drive towards the goal." He added, "We are convinced of his potential and that he will take the next steps (in his football career) with us."
Irankunda, who was born in a refugee camp in Tanzania after his parents fled conflict in their home country of Burundi, has represented Australia at the Under-17 level. He trained with the senior national team last March and was called up to the squad for two matches against Colombia and Ecuador, but did not participate in either.
