Sudan Under Bombardment: Aid Warehouses Empty

Residents of Khartoum and the northern neighborhoods of Omdurman woke up today, Thursday, to terrifying sounds of explosions due to the mutual shelling between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces. The ongoing war, which has lasted for months, has resulted in the deaths of at least three thousand people and the displacement of more than three million. The battles are concentrated in the capital Khartoum, its suburbs, and the Darfur region in the west of the country, where a quarter of Sudan's population of 48 million lives. Numerous reports from relief organizations and other UN bodies have confirmed atrocities in Darfur, including sexual violence, prompting the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into potential war crimes. There have also been reports of theft and looting of humanitarian aid warehouses, leaving the population without any support to withstand a war that intensifies day by day.
