Haniyeh: Palestinians Will Not Leave Gaza

Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), affirmed on Saturday evening that Palestinians will not leave Gaza or the West Bank to migrate to Egypt. In part of his speech, Haniyeh addressed Egypt, stating, "Our decision is to stay on our land; there will be no migration from the West Bank or Gaza to Cairo, and I salute the position of our brothers in Egypt who confirm that they are the supportive umbrella, but on the basis of no migration." He emphasized, "We will continue our struggle until we have a state, our prisoners are freed, our sanctities are liberated, and our displaced people return to their homes." Egypt shares a border with Gaza and is concerned about the potential displacement of the people of the enclave due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and bombardment, which began in response to an attack by Hamas. Like other Arab countries, Egypt has stated that Palestinians should remain on their land as the war escalates, while it is working to secure the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip.
