Security sources and sources from the diving tourism sector in Egypt have reported that three British tourists are missing after a fire broke out on a boat carrying tourists during a diving trip in the Red Sea off the resort of Marsa Alam in the southeast of the country. The sources stated that the boat was carrying 29 people, including British and Egyptian nationals, adding that 12 British tourists and 14 Egyptians, who are the boat's crew, were rescued and that the search is ongoing for the three missing British tourists. A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office stated: "We are in contact with local authorities following an incident on board a diving boat near Marsa Alam." The Red Sea Governorate's office mentioned in a statement that "the cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit in the boat's engine room." The sources clarified that the boat had departed from Porto Ghalib Marina in Marsa Alam, located in the Red Sea Governorate, on June 6 and was scheduled to return to its harbor today, Sunday. They added that the fire consumed the entire boat. The sources further indicated that the rescued individuals were unharmed and in good health.
