Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today, Sunday, that "French President Emmanuel Macron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will visit Israel this week." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a series of conversations today with Western leaders: French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. In a statement, Rutte said he "spoke to Netanyahu and requested clarification regarding the death of the Dutch citizen," and called for a "humanitarian ceasefire" in the fighting to allow aid to reach civilians in Gaza. Rutte stated, "Israel has the right to defend itself and must eliminate the threat from Hamas, doing everything possible to free the hostages." However, he added, "self-defense is closely linked to proportionality and must comply with international humanitarian law and rules of war."
