Kyiv Announces First Successful Interception of Russian Hypersonic Missiles

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, confirmed on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces shot down all missiles launched by Russia in an intensive attack on Ukraine last night, totaling 18 missiles of various types.

Zaluzhnyi stated via Telegram that Russia fired six Kinzhal ballistic missiles from aircraft, nine Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea, and three Iskander missiles from ground-based launchers.

The Ukrainian Air Force also reported that it shot down six Iranian-made Shahed drones and three reconnaissance drones. Ukrainian officials noted that explosions occurred in several neighborhoods in the capital Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday morning, without providing information on the extent of damages or potential losses.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram about "a few explosions that occurred in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv," adding that debris from the explosions fell on the zoo in the Shevchenkivskyi area of the city. He noted that the fallen debris ignited several vehicles in the Solomianskyi area.

Ukrainian officials had previously stated that air defense systems were countering Russian aerial attacks on Kyiv and other locations in Ukraine. Andrii Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky's office, posted on Telegram: "The air defenses are intercepting the targets," providing no further details.
