Diplomats reported that the UAE requested a meeting of the United Nations Security Council "as soon as possible" following the expanded Israeli ground operations in Gaza and the disruption of communication networks. The 15-member council may convene soon, possibly tomorrow, Sunday, and the UAE has asked UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths and the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini to provide a briefing.
