In the wake of one of Egypt's most horrifying crimes, a prominent human rights lawyer has been accused of murdering and dismembering her mother before storing the remains in a freezer. A previous video of the lawyer discussing the importance of respecting one's mother has resurfaced, adding to the public's shock.
The widely circulated footage shows the accused lawyer, "S.A.", speaking on a television program a few years ago. In the video, she stresses the significance of honoring one's mother, stating, "He who does not cherish his mother like a crown atop his head is not even worthy of being congratulated on his wedding day."
She further commented, "If mothers weren't of great importance, the holy prophet wouldn't have emphasized, 'Mother, Mother, Mother.'"
The broadcast of this video on social media has left many stunned at the glaring irony. The lawyer, who had been a vocal advocate for women's rights and highlighted the importance of filial piety, now stands accused of committing such an unthinkable act against her own mother.
Security authorities in Egypt revealed late Thursday the grim details of discovering the dismembered body pieces of an elderly woman in the Alexandria apartment of the well-known lawyer. This case has sent shockwaves through the Egyptian public.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of the lawyer, who was renowned for her activism in defending women's rights and fighting harassment, following her involvement in the murder and mutilation of her elderly mother in their shared residence.
The incident came to light following a formal report received by the Montaza First Police Department on the 20th of this month from residents of a building in Sidi Bishr Qibly, who complained of a strong stench emanating from the apartment shared by the lawyer and her 70-year-old mother.
Upon entering the apartment, officers found scattered body parts throughout the premises.
The Ministry of Interior stated that upon apprehension, the lawyer confessed in detail to a heated argument with her mother on the 17th of the month over longstanding family issues and mistreatment, which escalated into her assaulting and strangling her mother to death.
She admitted to dismembering the body with a "bladed weapon" over a period of two days before fleeing to avoid detection.
