Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that he sees "indicators that the Hamas movement has started to collapse in Gaza." The minister's remarks, reported by the "Times of Israel," came during the lighting of Hanukkah candles with Israeli forces at the Gaza border. Gallant said, "I see the signs that indicate Hamas has begun to collapse in Gaza," adding while addressing the soldiers, "You all play a key role in this matter." Since the beginning of its violent assault on the Gaza Strip two months ago, Israel has asserted that its goal in the war is to eliminate the Hamas movement. The movement launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people according to the Israeli government. Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza have led to the deaths of over 17,000 Palestinians and injured about 46,000, according to the health ministry statistics in the sector.
