The army and the Shin Bet intelligence agency stated in a joint statement that "an operation targeting Farwana in the heart of Rafah, guided by intelligence from the Intelligence Directorate and the Shin Bet, resulted in the elimination of Sobhi Farwana, a prominent money changer who, alongside his brother through their exchange company 'Hamasat,' had transferred tens of millions of dollars to Hamas and its military wing, particularly in the Gaza Strip."
The statement highlighted that "Farwana was one of the leading money changers capable of transferring large sums necessary for managing combat for the military wing of Hamas." It also noted that Farwana continued to transfer funds to Hamas's military wing even amid ongoing fighting, fully aware that these funds were essential for enabling the military wing to continue its operations.
