According to sources in the Syrian capital Damascus, both Saudi Arabia and Syria have completed the procedures for appointing ambassadors in both countries. The sources indicated that Damascus has decided to send the current Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Sosan, as the ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic in Riyadh, without revealing the name of the upcoming Saudi ambassador to Damascus. Decisions regarding the reappointment of ambassadors and the resumption of diplomatic relations between Damascus and Riyadh are expected to be issued after President Assad returns from China. Syrian diplomat and politician Mohammad Ayman Sosan has held the position of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Syria since 2014, and prior to that, he served as the ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belgium and the European Union until 2012. He holds a doctorate in international relations.
