Two Civilians Killed in Ukrainian Shelling in Bryansk

A local Russian governor announced that two civilians were killed as a result of Ukrainian shelling on a village in Russia's Bryansk region on Saturday evening. Governor Alexander Bogomaz noted on Telegram that "according to preliminary information, a residential building was completely destroyed and two other houses were damaged," confirming that "emergency services continue to work at the scene." Ukraine rarely claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia and in territories controlled by Russia in Ukraine. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine that has lasted for 14 months. An Ukrainian military spokesman stated on Saturday that Ukraine still controls a key supply route leading to Bakhmut, but the situation remains "really difficult" in the besieged city located in the eastern part of the country. Serhiy Cherevatyi, a spokesman for Ukrainian forces in the east, mentioned in an interview with a local news site that "for several weeks, the Russians have been talking about controlling the 'road of life,' as well as ongoing attempts to control fire on it." He added, "Yes, it is really difficult there, as their attempts to control the road continue, as well as attempts to control fire. However, the defense forces have not allowed the Russians to cut off our logistical services." The "road of life" is a vital route between the destroyed Bakhmut and the neighboring town of Chasiv Yar to the west, located a little over 17 kilometers away.
