Russian player Daniil Medvedev denied making a vulgar gesture towards the crowd after his loss of 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of the Paris Masters Tennis tournament on Wednesday. While leaving the court after the defeat, the world’s number three ranked player examined his hand before seemingly raising his middle finger to the audience. Fans booed Medvedev, known for his anger on the court, during the second set after he threw his racket and received a warning for time violations after sitting down in protest. Medvedev told reporters, "No, I didn’t (raise my middle finger to the crowd), I was checking my nails. Nothing more than that. Why would I do that to the beautiful Paris audience?"
