The President of the German Football Association, Bernd Neuendorf, has halted negotiations with former international star Sami Khedira regarding his succession of Rudi Völler as the director of the German national team. German magazine "Sport Bild" reported today that the discussions between Neuendorf and the 36-year-old Khedira stopped due to their failure to agree on salary and promotional contracts for the star, who won the 2014 World Cup with the German national team.
Oliver Bierhoff had previously left this position following the early exit of the German national team from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Mannschaft was eliminated in the group stage for the second consecutive edition. The famous former star Völler took on the role temporarily, intending to hold the position until the UEFA Euro 2024, which will be hosted by Germany.
Khedira confirmed earlier this August that there were negotiations with the German Football Association regarding succeeding Völler in the position. He stated to the German sports magazine "Kicker," "It's no secret that we've spoken several times, but we have not reached an agreement yet." Recently, Khedira served as an advisor for his former club Stuttgart.
