Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, recorded the fastest time in the first free practice session for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the Formula 1 World Championship, last night. The session was shortened due to track repairs, resulting in only eight minutes of actual car activity. In the first test on the Strip circuit, Spanish driver Carlos Sainz's Ferrari sustained some damage due to a loose manhole cover, though it seems the driver was not injured. The Alpine team reported that Esteban Ocon's car will also require some repairs due to the cover. Leclerc, hailing from Monaco, outperformed all his rivals by clocking a time of 1:40.909, while Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen took the second and third positions, respectively. The FIA stated it would inspect all manhole covers on the 3.8-kilometer circuit. Fans who gathered in the stands to witness the first activity at the track felt disappointed, just like American driver Logan Sargeant, the only one unable to enter the track. Sargeant, who drives for Williams, remarked, "Yes... that was funny."
