Carrefour: We Will Not Sell PepsiCo Products Due to Price Increases

The Carrefour supermarket chain has informed its customers in four European countries that it will not sell products from PepsiCo, such as Pepsi and 7UP soft drinks and Lay's potato chips, due to their increased prices. This announcement marks the latest dispute between retailers and global food giants over pricing. A spokesperson for the French retail chain stated that starting today, Thursday, signs will be placed on the shelves of PepsiCo products in Carrefour stores in France, Italy, Spain, and Belgium, reading, "We no longer sell this brand due to unacceptable price increases."

The signs have already been placed on shelves in a Carrefour store in the upscale 16th arrondissement of Paris, where customers widely praised the move. PepsiCo had announced in October that it plans to implement "modest" price increases this year as demand continues to rise despite these increases, resulting in the company raising its profit expectations for 2023 for the third consecutive time. The Carrefour spokesperson noted that "it is unclear whether existing PepsiCo products on Carrefour shelves will be withdrawn," adding that "Carrefour cannot prevent shoppers from purchasing these products that are on sale."
