Anwar Gargash, an advisor to the UAE president, criticized the United States today for its use of veto power in the United Nations Security Council against the resolution proposed by the UAE to cease fire in Gaza. Gargash stated in a post on his official account on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter): "The use of the veto in the Security Council against the resolution presented by the UAE to stop the fire in Gaza has squandered an opportunity to halt the bleeding of human losses and cast a negative shadow on the ability of the international community to protect civilians during armed conflicts."
He added, "The world today needs to unify its moral standards and lean towards humanity."
On Friday, the United States used its veto during a Security Council vote against a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, amidst growing concern about the number of civilian casualties there. Thirteen countries voted in favor of the resolution, while the US vetoed it and the United Kingdom abstained from voting.
The draft resolution, presented by the UAE, called for "an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons," as well as for "the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages" and "ensuring humanitarian aid access." At least 97 other countries joined this effort, participating in sponsoring the resolution drafted by the UAE.
