Lebanon's Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, Ali Hamiye, announced the bidding process that will be conducted by the Public Authority for Railways and Public Transport for the management and operation of public transport buses on routes, as well as for the investment in related advertising activities. Hamiye provided a brief overview in a press conference held today, Monday, at the ministry's office, with the attendance of the chairman of the Public Authority for Railways and Public Transport, Ziad Nasr.
He highlighted the pivotal milestones in the operational path that accompanied the work to run public transport buses, including the French buses that have collectively become operational along with the 45 buses available in the Public Authority following their maintenance, bringing the total number to 95 buses. During the conference, Hamiye launched the "bidding for the management and operation of public transport buses on the routes and for the investment in related advertising activities," marking the first time this bidding process is based on a partnership between the public and private sectors, noting that "this is an encouragement for the private sector to participate in the bidding."
For his part, Nasr pointed out that the bidding was posted on the platform of the Public Procurement Authority on August 2 of this year, and it will take place in two phases. The first phase will qualify accepted bidders while applying a minimum set of criteria, allowing any company operating in this sector to apply. In the second phase, the transport routes have been divided into five groups, emphasizing that "the bidding will be awarded to the one who offers the highest percentage of revenues."
