Sevilla FC, competing in La Liga, announced today, Monday, the return of defender Sergio Ramos to the team after 18 years. They stated on the platform "X": "Sergio Ramos has returned home."
Ramos expressed his happiness about returning to Sevilla, saying, "It's a very special day, returning home is always a great joy, now we need to get through the medical tests."
The 37-year-old player, who played for Sevilla in the 2004-2005 season before transferring to his previous team Real Madrid, where he won the Champions League four times, added, "I am happy to be back and trying to join the team as soon as possible."
According to local newspapers, Ramos preferred to return to Sevilla over accepting a financially better offer from Al-Ittihad, the Saudi League champions last season.
The "BeFootball" website reported that "Ramos will receive an annual salary of no more than 1 million euros with Sevilla, while the veteran defender received an offer from Al-Ittihad that included an annual salary of 20 million euros, along with another offer from Turkey valued at 11 million euros per season."
Sevilla is currently at the bottom of La Liga after four matches but will participate in the Champions League, having been drawn into Group B alongside Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven, and Lens.
