Crystal Palace, competing in the English Premier League, announced on Thursday the signing of young midfielder Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in a deal whose value has not been disclosed. Wharton, 19, has agreed to a contract lasting five and a half years, with local media reporting the value to be £22 million ($28.03 million).
Wharton stated, "I have always wanted to play in the Premier League, and achieving this at a club as big as Crystal Palace is a great honor for me." He participated in 29 matches with his childhood club Blackburn last season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Wharton becomes Crystal Palace's second signing following the acquisition of defender Daniel Munoz. Crystal Palace currently sits 14th in the Premier League with 24 points from 22 matches and will face Brighton & Hove Albion in their next league match on Saturday.
