Libyan Leaders Meet to Agree on New Election Laws

Libyan leaders are meeting in Morocco today, Monday, to finalize an agreement regarding new election laws. However, any agreement they announce concerning election laws or the formation of a new interim government is likely to face opposition that could further delay the political process. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the head of the High Council of State, Khaled Mishri, traveled to Morocco early this morning in hopes of reaching an agreement, according to a member of the House of Representatives and a spokesperson for the High Council.

In addition, the UN special envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, noted that "the country could witness elections by the end of the year if Libyan leaders reach an agreement this month."
