The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Monday, that "Niger has officially accepted the initiative put forward by Algeria for the return of constitutional order in the country." The ministry stated in a statement: "The Algerian government received an official message via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger, indicating acceptance of the Algerian mediation aimed at facilitating a political solution to the ongoing crisis in this country, as part of the initiative proposed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune."
It clarified that "accepting the Algerian initiative strengthens the choice of a political solution to the crisis in Niger and opens the way to provide the necessary conditions that could facilitate resolving this crisis peacefully, in a manner that preserves the interests of Niger and the entire region." Additionally, the Algerian president has tasked Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf with heading to Niamey as soon as possible to begin preparatory discussions with all relevant parties on ways to activate the Algerian initiative.
