Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that Turkish authorities have arrested 2,554 fugitives as part of a nationwide operation against terrorism following a blast by Kurdish militants near government buildings in Ankara a week ago. A few days ago, Turkey announced that all locations of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the armed factions of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are "legitimate targets" for its forces, after the PKK claimed responsibility for the explosion last Sunday that injured two police officers and killed the attackers. Since the incident, Ankara has launched a barrage of airstrikes and ground attacks on military targets in northern Syria and Iraq, while intensifying security operations across Turkey. Yerlikaya mentioned on the social media platform X that the fugitives arrested in the nationwide initiative are described as "heroes of the operations." He added, "We will not allow fleeing criminals to roam our streets. We are determined to catch them and bring them to justice," without specifying to which groups the arrested individuals belong.
