Dani Alves' brother denied reports suggesting that the former Barcelona star and Brazil national team player wanted to commit suicide in the prison where he is currently held due to a high-profile rape case. A Brazilian journalist, Paulo Albuquerq, reported that Alves might have attempted suicide in the prison. Following the news, Alves' name trended on social media in Spain.
Alves' brother stated in a message via social media: "How cruel people are. He has already been convicted based on the words of a woman who entered the men's bathroom to do what only he knows. He has already been convicted; isn't that enough?"
Regarding his brother's situation in prison, he added: "The south thing now is that they want to kill him. How can you be so cruel? My father's age is over 70, my mother is over 60, and these pages continue to spread these things."
The Brazilian journalist later retracted his statement, clarifying: "I was referring to my cousin from Nova Iguaçu who went missing but has now been found alive."
It is noted that the National Court of Catalonia sentenced Dani Alves, the former Barcelona legend, to four and a half years in prison and ordered him to pay the girl €150,000 for the incident of her rape on the morning of December 31, 2022.
