Lebanese Foreign Ministry Summons Ambassador to France

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants announced that, following the circumstances surrounding the case of Lebanon's ambassador to France and in light of the transfer of the investigation committee sent by the Ministry to the embassy in Paris, it has been decided to summon Ambassador Rami Adwan to the central administration. The French Foreign Ministry has been informed that Counselor Ziad Tahan will head the mission as Chargé d'Affaires starting today, June 7, 2023.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib met today, Thursday, with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the international coalition to defeat "ISIS" held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The two ministers reached an understanding regarding the Lebanese ambassador to France and discussed the issue of Syrian displacement in Lebanon and the presidential elections. Colonna confirmed President Macron's appointment of former Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian as an envoy to Lebanon, where he will work to expedite the election process for the President of the Lebanese Republic. Minister Colonna emphasized that "France does not have a presidential candidate; what matters is that Lebanon has a president, especially in these difficult economic conditions." For his part, Minister Bou Habib stressed the need for France to support the Lebanese position on the Syrian displacement issue.
