Official media reported today, Saturday, that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un publicly rode in a car gifted to him by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which they described as a "clear indication" of the strengthening friendship between the two countries. Pyongyang and Moscow have formed closer ties since Kim and Putin met in Russia and pledged to deepen military relations. Both countries deny Western allegations that North Korea is supplying Russia with artillery shells and missiles used in the military operation in Ukraine. The Korean Central News Agency, citing Kim Yo Jong, the leader's sister, stated that Kim's ride yesterday in a Russian "Aurus" limousine is a "clear sign of the friendship between Democratic Korea and Russia, which is developing comprehensively in a new high stage," according to Reuters. The agency reported that Kim Jong Un oversaw air warfare drills yesterday and urged for "actual" combat readiness following the conclusion of annual joint exercises between South Korea and the United States last week. The agency quoted Kim as saying, "Only practical training directly related to war can prepare soldiers as real fighters."
