The English Football Association has accused Manchester City of failing to control their players during the 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the Premier League. Several City players surrounded referee Simon Hooper near the end of the match after he stopped play as Jack Grealish was running towards goal due to a foul on Erling Haaland during the build-up, despite having previously signaled to continue play.
The FA stated in a release on Monday: "We have charged Manchester City with a breach of the rules after their players surrounded the referee during the Premier League match against Tottenham. The club apparently failed to control their players from acting in an inappropriate manner at the 94th minute."
City has until Thursday to respond to the charge. Following the draw, manager Pep Guardiola's team dropped to third in the standings, three points behind leaders Arsenal, and will face Aston Villa in their next match on Wednesday.
