Arrest of Israeli Football Player in Turkey

Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated that prosecutors launched an investigation against Israeli football player Sagiv Jhazkel, a striker for Turkish club Antalyaspor, on charges of "inciting hatred and hostility." Tunç posted on social media platform X, "The Antalya Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated a judicial investigation against Israeli football player Sagiv Jhazkel for inciting hatred and hostility due to his offensive gestures supporting the Israeli massacre in Gaza after scoring a goal in the match between Antalyaspor and Trabzonspor in the Premier League." Jhazkel, 28, showed one of his hands covered in bandages after scoring against Trabzonspor on Sunday. The bandages had the inscription "100 days, 10/7," referencing the attack launched by Hamas on Israeli towns on October 7. Turkish media, including official outlets, reported that the Israeli player was arrested on Sunday evening. Antalyaspor announced the suspension of their Israeli player, accusing him of "acting against the values of our country."
