Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo scored within two minutes in the second half, leading Liverpool, hampered by injuries, to a 4-1 victory over Luton Town at home on Wednesday. Manager Jürgen Klopp's team now has 60 points from 26 matches, four points ahead of Manchester City and five ahead of Arsenal, who have both played 25 matches. Luton Town remains in 18th place.
Luton’s Chiedozie Ogbene opened the scoring in the 12th minute, catching Liverpool off guard, who were without several key players, including Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez. This marked the first time this season that Liverpool trailed at home during a league match until halftime.
However, Liverpool improved in the second half, with Van Dijk scoring in the 56th minute by heading in a corner taken by Alexis Mac Allister. Just two minutes later, Mac Allister headed another cross into the net. Luis Díaz and Harvey Elliott completed the scoring for Liverpool in the 71st and 90th minutes, respectively.
