Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Dr. Mohammed Mustafa today, Thursday, to form the 19th government, succeeding Mohammed Shtayyeh. Mohammed Mustafa will serve as Prime Minister following Shtayyeh, who submitted his government's resignation on February 26. Mustafa, an economist educated in the United States, previously managed the Palestinian Telecommunications Company (PalTel) as well as the Palestinian Investment Fund, which has assets of approximately one billion dollars to finance projects throughout the Palestinian territories. He was appointed 10 years ago to help lead reconstruction efforts in Gaza following a previous war between Israel and Hamas.
