Explosion Rocks Firework Factory in India Leaving Dozens Dead

Ten people were killed and 15 injured in an explosion on Saturday at a firework factory in southern India, according to police. Officer Firouz Khan Abdullah stated that the explosion was caused by a fire within the factory located in Tamil Nadu. He added, "Ten workers were killed in the explosion that followed the fire in the factory, and five of the injured were taken to the hospital," noting that the fire was quickly brought under control, though the cause was not immediately known. Explosions are common in firework factories in India. Fireworks are highly popular in India, especially during the Hindu festival of Diwali and at weddings. However, many factories do not adhere to basic safety regulations and operate without permits.
